Special alloy stainless wire

ER309LMo welding wire matched to demanding applications.

KHANDU uses the customer's stated joint design, base materials, process, service conditions and document requirements when matching ER309LMo products from specialized Chinese manufacturers.

Product overview

Understanding ER309LMo

ER309LMo is a highly alloyed stainless filler used where a 309L-type deposit with added molybdenum is specified. It may be considered for selected dissimilar joints or buffer and cladding layers, but dilution and service conditions must be reviewed before selection.

Classification framework
AWS A5.9 ER309LMo or project-approved modified classification
Welding process
GTAW / TIG, GMAW / MIG or SAW depending on product form
Product form
Molybdenum-alloyed, low-carbon stainless solid wire or rod

Typical application context

  • Selected stainless-to-carbon or low-alloy steel joints under an approved procedure.
  • Buffer layers and corrosion-resistant overlays where the design calls for a Mo-bearing 309L-type deposit.
  • Fabrication or repair involving composition transition and controlled dilution.

Key selection considerations

  • Both base materials, joint design, dilution, layer sequence and any post-weld heat treatment.
  • Required weld-metal chemistry, ferrite range, corrosion environment and cracking risk.
  • Process, shielding gas, heat input, procedure qualification and product classification details.

Information to provide

  • Base-material combination, joint type and intended service.
  • TIG or MIG process, diameter and shielding gas.
  • Corrosion, ferrite and mechanical property requirements.
  • Procedure documents, certificates and customer trial plan.

Product selection basis

The classification alone does not establish suitability. The customer should confirm the final selection against its procedure, project specification and qualification requirements.
